State Organization Chooses Stone Laser Imaging

for Hall of Fame:

When the Missouri Park and Recreation Association set out to order the appropriate awards for their inaugural class

of inductees into the Missouri Recreation and Park Hall of Fame, the first choice seemed obvious:  bronze.  However,

after looking into the costs of this product, they went looking for good alternatives.

“This was our first opportunity to recognize individuals who worked most of their careers in order to promote the

parks and recreation movement in Missouri,” says, Jan Neitzert, Executive Director for MPRA. “We wanted something

that was classy, but not ostentatious, because none of these people clamored for attention.  They just had a heart for

their work.”

Through an unusual series of events, they became acquainted with Harry Hoffert of Stone Laser Imaging in Sedalia,

Missouri.  After discussing their needs, MPRA decided to commission their 14 plaques to be done in granite.  Using

photographs supplied by the inductees or their families, precise images were etched into the granite’s surface and

the results are remarkable.

To complete their project, Hoffert and his staff also designed and mounted the Hall of Fame display.  Neitzert continues,

“Harry was great to work with.  He came with great ideas, but also listened to what our vision was for the Hall, and went

to a great deal of effort to make it happen.”

At a ceremony held in March of 2009, the fourteen plaques were presented, and the reaction was unanimous.  “Everyone

was thrilled with the plaques,” says Neitzert.  “All the families wanted their pictures taken with the plaques. One inductee’s

former employer even ordered a copy of the granite piece to hang in their local office.”

The plaques are now part of a permanent display at the Missouri Park and Recreation Association offices in the Musco

Lighting Building in Jefferson City.  For photographs and further information about MPRA and the MRP Hall of Fame,
